Classic tempi gradually lengthened and the Premier division’s top two engines played a 100-game match to determine the Grand Champion. This gave TCEC the opportunity to welcome in nine new engines, see Figs. 1 & 2, and allowed the strategy for the selection of mandated openings to be finessed from division to division.
