Há uns anos atrás vi o filme “Ping Pong”, do realizador Fumihiko Sori, e na altura nem me apercebi que o mesmo era baseado no manga com o mesmo nome. Muitos anos mais tarde, e tendo eu já poucas recordações do filme de 2002, foi lançada a adaptação a anime do manga de Taiyō Matsumoto. Lançada em 2014, dezoito anos depois da publicação do manga original em 1996, pode-se dizer que este foi um dos raros casos onde a espera valeu a pena. Yutaka Hoshino (Peco) e Makoto Tsukimoto (Smile) são dois amigos de longa data. Atormentado nos primeiros anos da escola, Smile sempre teve em Peco o seu “herói”, aquele que o vinha salvar dos vários rufias que o incomodavam diariamente. Da sua amizade nasceu outro laço, o do Ping Pong, desporto o qual Peco ama e que introduziu ao seu amigo mais próximo.
