After successes in 2011 in regional elections in the German capital and in the following year in the states of Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia, the German Pirate Party , which initially focused on filesharing, censorship and data protection, has seen two of its state-level leaders in the states of Brandenburg and Baden-Wuerttemburg step down in the past few days alone. The party's Berlin representation is meeting over the weekend to choose its candidates for the country's federal elections, to be held on September 22 which will determine the 598 or more members of the 18th Bundestag, Germany's federal parliament. After well-publicized infighting in the party, many observers are skeptical that the party can reach the 5 percent vote required to join the country's politics on that level.
