Igor Drenkov was a Communist spy who had infiltrated the Gamma Bomb project under the guise of fellow scientist Bruce Banner's assistant. When Bruce ordered Igor to start the Bomb's countdown, Igor spotted Rick Jones on the test site. General Thunderbolt Ross quickly went out onto the test site to take care of the youth.
