On January 27, the penultimate round 12 the Tata Steel Chess was played in Wijk aan Zee.    In the Masters tournament, Magnus Carlsen outplayed Maxim Matlakov, Anish Giri bested Baskaran Adhiban, while Vladimir Kramnik defeated Fabiano Caruana.
